A Missouri state bookseller’s sales plummeted after a gunman shot and killed two employees at a bookshop in a shopping mall.
According to a news release, the bookseller was among two employees who were shot outside a store in the small town of Kmart Mall on Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened as shoppers and staff were leaving the mall when a gunman approached the building and opened fire, according to a statement released by the Kmart mall.
“We were just getting ready to leave and the door to the store suddenly closed and the doors of the store burst open,” a woman named Carla said in the statement.
“The guy came in, grabbed the guns, and started shooting,” Carla added.
The suspect then ran from the scene and ran away.
The news release stated that a second employee, a 19-year-old woman, was also shot in the arm.
“Our security guard, who was also on the phone with police, heard the shots and ran out,” a statement read.
“At first, I thought it was fireworks, but he said it was just someone shooting at the store.
There was a big cloud of smoke and dust over the area.”
Carla told news station KXAN that her store was closed on Wednesday.
The news station reported that the store is in a “critical” condition.
