The University of Connecticut is in the process of purchasing a small bookstore and the University of Illinois at Chicago has opened a bookstore.
All three locations will remain open.
Illini Union bookstore & library are still working on the new space.
“These are just a couple of steps in a long process, but I feel it’s important to take this opportunity to offer the community a unique experience, both for our community and the university,” said the Illinis president and chief executive officer, Peter Kuehn, in a statement.
“We are pleased to partner with the University and the Illinois Department of Public Safety to help ensure our community gets the best possible bookstore and book club experience, and we look forward to a positive, inclusive environment.”
The first book club opened in 2016 at the University’s Bicentennial Center, and the Illinos bookstore will be located on campus.
The Illini union has been looking for a new location for a book club since the organization moved to its current location in 2009.
The Illini bookstore is open seven days a week and is located at 816 Broadway, just off the Bicentenary Center.
The Chicago chapter will be able to take book clubs to events like the Illino Sports Festival and Illini Fest.
The Illinois Department for Public Safety will be offering a $25 discount on admission for those attending book clubs and other special events to members of the Illinis union.
