A bookseller from Birmingham has died after allegedly stealing £100 worth of books from a shop in Glasgow.
James Trench, 52, was arrested on Monday and charged with theft and is due to appear in Glasgow Sheriff Court.
His partner, Angela Loy, is still missing after she had gone to the shop in Taunton Street to buy a book.
The shopkeeper, who is not being named, told police that she left the shop to return to her home in the area of Southfield Avenue and King Street, on Monday afternoon and was followed by her partner.
She was then allegedly approached by the two men and she was asked if she was carrying any books.
Police said that when she refused, one of the men reportedly punched her in the face and kicked her in her arms.
Ms Loy has been taken to hospital but is not expected to survive.
The incident happened on Monday evening.
It is not yet known how long the couple’s relationship lasted.
